Letter from the PTA President
As PTA President, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2013 - 2014 school year at Barack Obama Elementary School. The purpose of the PTA is to support the faculty, staff, parents, and especially our students. Over the years, the PTA has become one of the strongest voices in the educational process that directly supports our children and school. Your PTA Executive Committee has been busy developing the details for a very productive and exciting year aimed at enhancing the educational environment of all our students.
In order to be successful, we know that the support and involvement of the parents, the faculty, the staff at Barack Obama, as well as the business leaders in our community will be of the utmost importance. Your first opportunity to show your support will be to become a member of the Barack Obama Elementary School PTA. We encourage each of you to show your commitment by joining. We will also encourage every faculty member, staff and the Before and After Care professionals to become members and get involved in the PTA, as well. Everyone’s involvement is necessary for the success of the school.
The second way to show your support will be to participate in the numerous events and programs that we have planned throughout the year. Your participation might be as a committee member, volunteer, or a supporting attendee. Whatever level of participation you select, your time and involvement will be appreciated. It is important to us that we involve all parents and parent figures.
BOES would like to continue the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Good Students) program. We are looking for more volunteer fathers/father figures that have at least one day, all day, to spend in the school during the school year. Watch Dog volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day, including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with the unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, and/or helping in the classroom with the teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling. For more information on the program, go to www.fathers.com/watchdogs.
You can show your support a third way by providing us with your comments regarding our PTA efforts, and giving suggestions or ideas for other potential initiatives. To facilitate this, please feel free to contact me directly.
The members of the PTA believe that it is of utmost importance that we do everything we can to enhance the learning experience and environment of our children. Knowledge and education are Power.
I look forward to working with you this year. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Sandra F. Collier
